neon goddess

had an idea, watching people dance under UV light,thinking about how the colours on their skin reminded me of some strange descendants of oriental gods... I tried to keep the image a little on the subtle, graceful side, since it could easily become a bit loud, with all the contrasty purple (oils just don't scan well..can't really capture the vibrancy of translucent oils over gesso *shrug*) and take away from the feeling of dim light and glowy skin I was going for

this is not really intended as 'ART'( though i like it) more of a practice run.. I want to revisit the neon/dancer/god thing, with a cleaner, more detailed, and better planned peice, so I can really ramp up the vibrancy and play with some different sybolism .NOT re-do the the same image, though: I was thinking of doing something more... high-gloss kandi kid , busy overall feel with pop culture city/neon references, to bring it more inline with the neon gods of advertising/consumerism... try to get the feeling I got from the simon and Garfunkel song, sounds of silence ("and they bowed any they prayed/to the neon gods they'd made... " very artificial, very other, but designed to be Wanted)

This is about as traditional as it gets for me: drawn in pencil on canvas, referencing a few snapshots I took in the mirror. Painted wet-on-wet in one sitting, with a couple of drybrush touch ups for the details after it was dry.

so...uh, yeah, it's a little scrappy, but that's because it was a rough 'get idea out of head, onto paper' thing...
I don't paint often (ugh, messy) Like, this is probably the 4th oil painting I've done in maybe 6 years? unless you count a handful of 'bored so mushing some colour about' doodles.
not so much a finished work. I prefer digital or pencil for that.... I'm not good enough with oil, and don't have the patience *laughs*
